Hi! I’m Lyra! I am a polite and quiet cat. I’m good at playing by myself, I make my foster family laugh because I mutter to myself as I run in circles to play with my tail or as I toss a toy around. I don’t like to be picked up and I can get startled if you sneak up on me, but in my polite way I just react by running a few steps away. I also sometimes get scared if you walk quickly at me, though I’m working on my confidence so that’s happening less often now. But for that reason I would prefer a home without children or at least with older, polite children who understand not to run at me and scare me. I do like head scratches and sometimes I even let myself be gently picked up and put on someone’s lap to enjoy them, but at the moment I only want to get cuddles with a person once or twice a day. I think with some patience (and probably some bribery with treats or toys) I will continue to gain some confidence.

I particularly like to play and cuddle with the resident cats. I was pretty nervous when I got here and most of my confidence has come from hanging out with them. They’ve taught me that if a person shakes a treat bag I should go get treats. They’ve also taught me that we greet the humans at the door when they come home, and in the evenings we all hang out together. I would be really happy if I found a forever home with at least one resident cat who can continue to be kind to me and help me gain my confidence with my people – especially if the cat will play and cuddle with me!

Please note: If other cats/dogs in your home are not spayed/neutered, we will deny your application. SCARS exists due to lack of spaying/neutering and it is our goal to end this cycle. If there is a documented medical reason for your animal to not be spayed/neutered, we will work with you.
