Update on Mixie, April 2:
Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve been at my foster home and boy have I warmed up! I come up for cuddles on the bed (something I was very unsure of before) and I have no problem approaching people I know for a head scratch. I also had a full recovery- so now I walk, run and jump like a normal kitty. I’ve started to warm up to the idea of a feline room mate, but if you get too close for my comfort I’m not afraid to tell you! Although I am small- I’ve got a lot to offer! I’ve also warmed up to the dog upstairs, but still not 100% comfortable with them. Sometimes they are just a little too much, yenno? I’m still looking for someone to give me lots of pets and cuddles, could that be you?
Original post Feb 1:
Hi, my name is Mixie and I’m a 5-year- old Calico female.
Like many other animals from SCARS, I’ve had a rough start at life. I was found limping on the side of the
highway in freezing temperatures. However, the nice person who spotted me did the right thing and
brought me to the Westlock vet. There they determined I had bad frost bite on all my feet and a hair-
line fracture on my pelvis. They also had found a tattoo, yay! I belonged to someone! After lots of calling
around they finally found my owner, unfortunately, they no longer wanted me and said they would
rather give me up than pay the vet bills. My unhappy story only got better from here. The lovely staff at
Westlock contacted SCARS and put me on pain medication. Now that I am at my fosters mom’s, I am
very affectionate and grateful for the warm house and full belly.
Since I was in the cold for so long, I walk a little funny due to the damaged caused by the frost bite. My
back-foot curls a little bit when I walk, but it doesn’t seem to put me in pain. The bottoms of my paws,
or the “pads”, are very dry and cracking and my nails are quite funky looking. I am sentenced to lots of
R&R so that I can heal up and walk, jump, and play like a normal kitty. I will be on pain meds for a while
(only for 2 weeks starting Jan. 20) but that doesn’t stop my adventurous spirit!
Although I seem to have a “glare”, I’m a very friendly kitty! I like lots of pets and I like to rub my face up
against you. I’m not a big cuddler though. I don’t think getting to cuddle with humans on the bed was a
common thing in my past life. I don’t’ think any beds were! I am one of those who likes to sleep on the
outside of the pet beds. I’ll get accustomed one day, I’m sure. After my hectic life outside, my favorite
hobby laying around and enjoying your company. I like to watch one of my fosterers’ play video games, I
curl up and take in the company. By no means am I a fast-paced kitty. Along with beds, I don’t
understand this feather thing the humans keep shaking in front of my face. That’s a no for me. I’ll stick
to cuddling and pets, no time for toys.
For my purr-fect home I would like someone I could hangout around with and relax. Maybe have a
slower paced home, with children and pets who could respect my boundaries. Someone to cuddle with,
keep me warm, and keep my belly full! If you think I would be the perfect fit for your home – click the
