SCARS 2023 Annual General Meeting

Please join us on May 27 at  2:00 PM “in-person” for the SCARS 2023 Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be held at the Italian Cultural Centre (Italia Hall), 14230 – 133 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta.

In addition to the presentation of the 2022 financial statements, along with Committee reports, SCARS’ membership will be voting for expiring and vacant Board positions.

1. Vice Chair, three-year term
2. Secretary, three-year term
3. One Director-at-Large, three-year term

The following nomination process will be implemented:

Nomination Process:
Election nominations for expiring and / or vacant board positions will be accepted effective April 4, 2023 and must be submitted to the Secretary via email at bod@scarscare.ca or mailed to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society Box 3045, Athabasca, AB T9S 2B9 and received no later than April 28, 2023. A package of nominees and applicable material will be provided to members at the meeting.

Nominations will not be accepted from the floor of the Annual General Meeting unless a Board vacancy occurs as a result of the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, or Secretary position being filled during the Annual General Meeting by an existing Director.

All nomination submissions must include a brief biography, including a statement of what the nominee will bring to the board and society.

Each nominee, to be elected to the Board, must meet all of the following qualifications:

(a) Be a member in good standing for a period of at least 30 days prior to the Annual General Meeting;
(b) Have, on or before the date of election or appointment to the Board, achieved the age of majority specified by the Province of Alberta;
(c) Not be an employee of the Society;
(d) Not be a contractor or a vendor to the Society; and

Elected Board Members must agree to, adhere to, and comply with, the SCARS Board and Volunteer policies.

Any natural person may become a Member by either:

• Applying to the Secretary, and paying the designated membership fee in effect from time to time; currently $25.00 or
• Having been appointed by the Board as an Honourary Life Member.
