The Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) Board of Directors has a Director-at-Large position opening. The position is for the remainder of a three-year term, ending in April 2029, and is eligible for re-election at that time.
SCARS is governed by a board of highly motivated individuals who share their diverse skill sets and business experience to support our commitment to the communities we serve. Our mission is to make a positive impact on animals and people by engaging with others to rescue and care for animals in need, share knowledge, and provide access to services and resources.
As a member of the SCARS Board, Directors are responsible for the effective governance of the society by developing policy and short- and long-term strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director.
We value diversity of abilities, experience, perspective, education, gender, background, race, and national origin. We encourage applications from members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
We are seeking a board member with business acumen and communication experience to help provide leadership, both internally and externally, for the betterment of the organization. Experience with fundraising, particularly capital campaigns, would be considered a significant asset. Previous board and/or committee experience, as well as the ability to work collaboratively, are also considered assets.
Requirements of board members include:
- Ability to contribute to monthly board meetings and committee activities, held almost exclusively via Zoom, with a commitment of approximately six hours per month.
- Willingness to serve on one or more committees, including policy, strategic planning, operations, fundraising, communications, and finance.
- Attendance at the Annual General Meeting.
- Attendance at and support of special events, which includes opportunities to interact with adoptable animals.
