Meet Hobbs! He is a miniature chihuahua who we think is about 7 years old. When he arrived at SCARS, he needed a dental cleaning quite badly and ended up having 9 teeth extracted! Now that he has had some time to recover from his surgery, we are starting to see his little personality shine. He is very affectionate with people, and will follow his foster mom around the house. Although he has come a long way in a short while, Hobbs will always be timid. He would not do well in a home with very young children, but more mature kids who would know how to always be gentle and quiet may be OK. He is also very fearful of other dogs. If they leave him alone, he has no issues. Hobbs would do well with a calm older dog. When he got to SCARS, Hobbs went to the washroom on a pee pad, but his foster mom is happy to report he is going outside quite regularly now.
Hobb’s Foster mom noticed he wasn’t waking properly, so SCARS had him thoroughly checked out. There was bad news and good news. The bad news, he probably has a hernia in one of the discs in his neck. The good news is that is does not require surgery and can be managed medically. He is currently on some medications for pain management while he recovers from this injury.
What this mature guy needs is a family who will build his confidence and teach him how to be a dog! Hobbs is just waiting to give all his love to his furever family!
Please note: If other cats/dogs in your home are not spayed/neutered, we may deny your application. SCARS exists due to lack of spaying/neutering and it is our goal to end this cycle. If there is a documented medical reason for your animal to not be spayed/neutered, we will work with you.
