Hi there, my name’s Pete. Like many of the dogs in my rural community, I was free to roam but this freedom came with many dangers.

Lack of sterilization is what got me into trouble. I got caught in a fight with another dog, or most likely a group of dogs, over a female in heat.

As you can see, I was badly injured. I had a gaping hole in my neck, along with other lacerations and puncture wounds. These wounds became infected as I continued to roam around for another four days.

I am now at Westlock vet clinic, and the staff here have been wonderful to me. I am currently getting all the medical and social attention I need to get me back on the road to recovery. But my gruesome wounds could have been avoided had spaying and neutering been a factor.

This is why SCARS has a Spay-Neuter-Return program that helps keep dogs like me safe. It also helps keep families in these communities safer by reducing dog fights and packing.

SCARS was also able to spay the female dog that was in heat so she is safe now too.

If you would like to support the SNR program, please purchase a spay or neuter package through their “Gifts From the Heart.” You can also donate an amount of your choice and include the comment “spay or neuter.”
