We are the lucky ones. It is probably hard to believe that when you see us. We are skin and bones and then we messed with a porcupine. It is true though, we are lucky. Our mom Lizzy, has been there for us from birth through to almost a year old. Now we have joined the SCARS family and you don’t get luckier than that. In the dog world it is the same as a win on the lottery.
Sassy and Suzy, here. We came into SCARS with our mom Lizzy, after being quilled. We are shy and a lot overwhelmed by everything that has happened, but so far we are doing well. Food has always been in short supply, up til now, we have been scavenging and eating garbage and what ever we could catch. Now that we have arrived safely in foster homes, they give us little meals many times a day to not hurt our digestive systems. Too much food all at once would make us feel very ill. We don’t mind at all though, regular little meals are absolutely amazing. We have a lot of weight to gain, but apparently food is not something we have to worry about again.
Thanks everyone who supports SCARS in whatever way you do. Take it from us, the opportunity at a second chance means the world!
Aug 14 Sassy update! I told you I was one of the lucky ones. Maybe you didn’t believe me at the time but it really was the truth. Sassy here and just look what a few days of care does!
I was pretty scared, you could even say shut down when I made it to my foster home. So much had happened in such a short time. Foster homes though are fabulous. They didn’t push me, or ask me to do too much, they just let me settle in and start to figure things out. You know what I like it here! I like it a lot! They have food! They serve it to you! In a dish! You don’t even have to go look for it (well you can go look for it, but they seem protective about the stuff on the counter, weird)! Anyway I have much to learn, but so far, so good. Still have some nasty quills migrating out, but really things are pretty positive. Thanks everyone for my second chance.
August 17 Suzy Update!
Miss Suzy has made some progress since coming into care – she is now 13.5kg. Which means she has gained 2kg so far in her foster home (has been in care for less than a week).
She another bet visit to take out 4 more quills that had migrated from her nose/jaw area this morning, she seems more alert without those pesky quills!
Suzy is one happy girl, and we are thankful to have her in our care. Sheโs not yet out of the woods but will be available for adoption soon! Did you know we have many amazing animals waiting for the furever home right NOW? Check out our website at www.scarscare.ca to see the list of ALL our animals available for adoption.
